ABOUT THE PROJECT
$Whale and Breezy started a long-term collaboration to provide a narrative to the $WHALE’s “The Vault”, one of the largest and most valuable collections of NFTs in the entire space through art curation. Each month we highlight a specific creator or theme, providing rich visuals, high-profile artist interviews, gallery events, and more. For the month of July 2022, the presented artist is SKEENEE.CURATORIAL TEXT
Let’s be very clear: Skeenee is punk.
He embodies everything you know or don’t know about Crypto Art.
Skeenee doesn’t have limits, and neither does his art. Pure experimentation and constant curiosity characterize his body of work. Skulls, birds, studies of human figures, animals: all are coming to life through the simple and confident trait of Skeenee’s drawings.
But Skeenee is also a master in giving the illusion of life. The artist animates his drawings, his nudes are pixelated. He mixes, fuses, and impregnates the quintessential traditional look with the most advanced technologies. A part of his works looks like studies, preliminary sketches of artworks. And yet, the feeling is not that of unfinished or drafts; instead, of completeness and wholeness.
So what are we looking at?
The answer is something new. Something that pushes the boundaries, where art doesn’t have to be on one side and technology on the other anymore. But especially where any means, ideas, tools, or attitude that can contribute to allowing art – and therefore humanity – to evolve is spontaneously and playfully used.
Skeenee doesn’t differentiate techniques, styles, or canons; he doesn’t put himself and his art in boxes. The only label he knows is: to expand beyond the limits.
His approach to art also reflects his involvement and role within the crypto art community, always fresh and constructive. Always trying to look through a new lens at society, social games, humanity, life.
I don’t know who coined the term “self-governance,” but in my mind, if there is someone among us who is the incarnation of it, that is Skeenee.
Skeenee, beyond the “self-sovereign.” Say hello to the “self-king.”

For the month of July, we present Skeenee’s unmistakable style and his works collected in The Vault Collection by $Whale.
His love for drawing and color is conveyed through the digital medium with a material sensitivity that challenges the actual existence of a screen between our eyes and the work of art.
Skeenee’s works are halfway between the natural evolution of those studies of anatomy and forms in traditional art academies and the legacy of a tattoo artist’s fresh and energetic style. Yet, both his paths converge towards the dematerialization into the digital ether.
Although his curiosity for technology has led him to explore new means of expression, his attitude toward the creative process remains strong to separate the creative moment from the critical one.
When I draw something, I never judge what I am drawing. My mind needs to be in my drawing, I never start critiquing what I’m doing when I’m doing it.
After years of studying and practicing a wide variety of techniques (from 2D animation and illustration to video game graphic design and pixel art), Skeenee opened his own tattoo studio in 2019, when Connie Digital shared her experience in the Crypto world with him, passing on the full potential of the community, which he was quick to join in October of that year. From then on, he implemented the use of the third dimension and the launch of his own social token ($SKULL) and began frequenting virtual environments and galleries.
The Crypto Community becomes a second family where he can experiment, propose new ways of interaction and exchange, seek advice, and where the fast flow of time prevents the artist from creating those superstructures that harness the creative essence.
In the simple lines, his expressive authenticity and identity manifest.
It is in the encounter, confrontation, and recovery of the true essence of the creative spirit that Skeenee’s art lies. Finding in the blockchain the best tool to reach the other.
